SOME OF DAYLEN'S HEART ANATOMY.......

HYPOPLASTIC LEFT HEART SYNDROM
HLHS = left ventricle is severely underdeveloped so the heart only works with the right side. In most cases of HLHS, most of the structures on the left side are small. Daylen's left ventricle, along with the pulmonary artery are very small.

MITRAL VALVE ATRESIA
The mitral valve is the opening which allows blood to enter from the left atrium to the left ventricle. When there is a MVA, the mitral valve does not develop properly and blood does not flow correctly causing the left ventricle and left structures to not develop properly.

PATENT DUCTUS ARTERIOSUS
All babies develop a PDA, which is only present until the umbilical cord is cut after birth. For babies who have heart defects, the PDA stays open (which is a good thing but bad for a baby who doesn't have a heart defect) and helps supply the lungs with oxygenated blood. The PDA normally closes in a CHD baby after about a week but in Daylen's case it never closed. It remained open and acts like an artery. Surgeon decided not to close it either.

DOUBLE OUTLET RIGHT VENTRICLE - MODIFIED
Normally, a ventricle has 1 outlet, but Daylen has 2 outlets on his right ventricle. One of his outlets are the pulmonary artery and the other is attached to the pulmonary artery from the right ventricle, kind of giving it a boost since his pulmonary artery is small to begin with.

PULMONARY ARTERY STENOSIS
This is when a narrowing occurs in the pulmonary artery to the lung. This was the case for Daylen's right side right before the pulmonary branches. It was too narrow and needed patched.
