Ctrl Shunt

Daylen had his first surgery where they placed a central shunt in his heart from the pulmonary artery to the aortic valve to help increase oxygen to his lungs. The procedure took place at 1:25 p.m. and ended at 2:28 p.m. Daylen did not have to be on the heart-lung machine, which was a good thing or surgery would have lasted longer! Since Daylen's heart anatomy is a little differently than the expected HLHS heart, his PDA never closed and  will remain open. His PDA is acting like an artery and this is the reason why doctors thought he would be okay without the 1st surgery to begin with since he had dual blood flow for his lungs. Daylen surprised us all though!

Recovery is looking great! Daylen's ventilator is officially out and he is breathing on his just fine. :) this makes for a happy mom and dad! His sat levels are flying high in the 90's which also makes us happy! The night shift doctor mentioned they are decreasing his dopamine and possibly have his arterial line out of his arm by the morning.

Daylen has been taken off all his IV medications and his arterial line is out. They also removed his drainage tube today and starting feeding him bottles! :) The heart surgeon stopped by and mentioned he will probably get sent back to the NICU tomorrow!

What a wonderful day of progression! Daylen was sent back to NICU at 3:00 p.m. and I couldn't be happier! :) He looks great and is doing so well!

Doctors are sending Daylen home tomorrow so today he was circumcised! This took place only 5 days after his heart surgery and he did so well! The nurse said he sucked on his pacey the entire time and just starred with no pain felt! :) What a trooper this little man is!
